Wichita Whole Woman Center

Procedure Description:
repair of various pelvic floor defects

What To Expect:

There will be more "uplift" in your pelvis...your incontinence should stop...there should be nothing "falling out" anymore...and though you will have some pain, it is controllable with medicine. Most women spend overnight in the hospital, then go home the following day.

Preprocedure:

You will have a complete history and physical exam, visit the pre-anesthesia clinic at the hospital you choose for your procedure, have nothing to eat or drink after midnight before your surgery. Upon check-in, about 2 hours before surgery, you will receive an IV and gown. Then, pre-operative antibiotics will be given, and the anesthetic you have agreed upon. Try to remember "warm, comfortable and thirsty," because if you tell yourself that as you're drifting off to sleep, you'll likely wake up in recovery WARM, COMFORTABLE, and THIRSTY! After your surgery, you will be in recovery for about an hour, then be moved to your room.

Postprocedure:

You will have pain, and medications will be offered. You may have a bladder catheter, which will be removed as soon as you are ready to get up out of bed. Please bring your favorite chewing gum to the hospital, since people who chew gum in the first 24 hours after surgery have more rapid normalization of bowel functions. Other specifics will be addressed by Dr. Page before, during and after your operation. To be dismissed from hospital, you must have no fever, be able to hold down liquids/foods, take medications by mouth, and be able to urinate. It is also good if you're able to pass gas ("flatus").
